2023 bond

General information about the proposed school bond
Posted on 09/25/2023

The Calhoun County ISD Board of Trustees has called for a bond election for November 7, 2023.

Calhoun County residents will have the opportunity to cast their vote about a proposed 25 million dollar bond that will support critical infrastructure repairs at every campus, including 1) roof repair, 2) air conditioning and heating repair, 3) parking lot repair, 4) safety and security upgrades, 5) new buses, and 6) an ag barn.

Here are the facts about the bond proposal:

  • The Calhoun County ISD tax rate for this year will be 16 cents lower than the previous tax rate.
  • Also, the proposed bond keeps CCISD’s Interest & Sinking tax the same as it currently is in 2023.
  • That’s a fact, even though state law requires the ballot to state “this is a property tax rate increase.”
  • Another fact is that every penny generated through bond funds will stay in Calhoun County and NOT be subject to “recapture,” which the process though which districts like Calhoun County ISD send some of their property-tax revenue to the state to distribute to other districts.
  • Construction costs continue to increase every month, so the longer needs go unaddressed, the more the projects will ultimately cost.
  • The projects proposed in the 2023 school bond election will impact the entire district, enhancing the educational experience for every Calhoun County ISD student.

Election Day 2023 is on Tuesday, November 7th at polling locations across the county.

Early voting is available from October 23rd to November 3rd at the Calhoun County Courthouse.
